Following university, Brecht received attention from critics and audiences alike, writing both plays and the screenplay to the short film Mysteries of a Barbershop. Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956) is acknowledged as one of the great dramatists whose plays, work with the Berliner Ensemble and critical writings have had a considerable influence on the theatre. His landmark plays include The Threepenny Opera , Fear and Misery of the Third Reich , The Life of Galileo, Mother Courage and Her Children and The Caucasian Chalk Circle. Brecht wrote very few plays in his last years in Berlin, none of them as famous as his previous works but he wrote some of his most famous poems during these last years. In 1955, Brecht received the Stalin Peace Prize.
